API – thông số quan trọng nhất của dầu nhớt.
- TỔ CHỨC API LÀ GÌ ?
- API là tên viết tắt của từ American Petroleum Institute – Viện Dầu khí Hoa Kỳ.
- Viện Dầu khí Hoa Kỳ được thành lập vào ngày 20 tháng 3 năm 1919 và có trụ sở tại Thành phố New York.
- Viện Dầu mỏ Hoa Kỳ (API) là hiệp hội thương mại lớn nhất của Mỹ đối với ngành công nghiệp dầu khí. Nó tuyên bố đại diện cho khoảng 600 công ty tham gia sản xuất, tinh chế, phân phối, và nhiều khía cạnh khác của ngành công nghiệp dầu nhớt.
Các chức năng chính của tổ chức như:
- Thiết lập và chứng nhận các tiêu chuẩn với dầu nhớt.
- Nghiên cứu liên quan đến nhiều khía cạnh của ngành công nghiệp dầu khí.
- Hỗ trợ ngành công nghiệp dầu mỏ và khí đốt tự nhiên của Hoa Kỳ ngày thêm vững mạnh.
- Hỗ trợ nghiên cứu các tác động về kinh tế, độc tính và môi trường.
2. TIÊU CHUẨN API LÀ GÌ ?
Theo sự phát triển cách mạng công nghiệp, trung bình cứ sau khoảng 3-5 năm thì lại có thiết kế động cơ mới ra đời, và đồng thời một cấp nhớt mới ra đời để đáp ứng yêu cầu bôi trơn của thế hệ động cơ tương ứng. Do đó, cần có 1 tiêu chuẩn đánh giá nhớt để phân biệt và đảm bảo chất lượng sản phẩm, đó chính là API (hay còn gọi là phẩm cấp hoặc cấp chất lượng) được áp dụng từ những năm đầu thế kỷ 19 và rộng rãi hơn trên toàn thế giới từ những năm 60.
API chia dầu nhớt thành các loại và các cấp như sau:
Dầu nhớt động cơ xăng được ký hiệu là S, và chữ cái đi kèm để phân biệt cấp chất lượng và được xếp theo bảng chữ cái, chữ cái càng đứng sau thì biểu thị cho phẩm cấp càng cao hơn, đến cấp mới nhất hiện nay là API SN. Ví dụ API SA, SB, SC,…,phẩm cấp API SN thì cao hơn SM; SM cao hơn SL.

Tương tự, dầu nhớt động cơ diesel được kí hiệu là C và phân thành các cấp API từ CA cho đến CJ. Cấp hiệu năng API mới nhất hiện nay là API CJ-4 được đánh giá theo các chỉ tiêu như khả năng bảo vệ động cơ (tính năng chống cặn bám, chống mài mòn…), tiết kiệm nhiên liệu (độ nhớt thấp, đa cấp), kéo dài định kỳ sử dụng nhớt và phin lọc (chống ô-xy hóa, phân tán cặn), bảo vệ thiết bị xử lý khí xả – Được sử dụng chủ yếu cho xe ô tô chạy bằng dầu diesel.
Thời kỳ đầu, dầu nhớt có chức năng chủ yếu là bôi trơn, bảo vệ và kéo dài tuổi thọ động cơ. Về sau dầu nhớt còn đảm đương thêm nhiều chức năng khác như giúp động cơ làm mát, làm sạch, giảm tiêu hao nhiên liệu và hiện nay thì làm giảm thiểu khí xả độc hại để động cơ đạt các tiêu chuẩn khí thải.
Như vậy, muốn lựa chọn dầu nhớt tốt nhất cho xe của mình, thì nên lựa chọn các cấp chất lượng càng cao càng tốt như API SL, SM hay SN cho động cơ xăng.
